Piano Theory

Privacy

Last updated 5 October 2026

Piano Theory has no account system and no advertising. It collects no personal data. From version 1.0.1 it counts, anonymously, how far people get through the course.

What we collect

No personal data. We do not ask for your name, email address or Apple ID. There is no sign-in, no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics SDK.

Anonymous usage counts

So we can see where the course is too hard, the app sends a short note when you open it, open or finish a lesson, reach a new card in a lesson, turn the microphone on or off, open the songs, or see the purchase screen. Each note holds the event, the lesson and card number, the app version, your device's region setting (for example "US") and a random number made on your phone when the app is first opened. That number is not linked to you, your Apple ID or your device, and deleting the app deletes it. We use the notes only to improve the app. They are never sold, shared or used for advertising.

The microphone

If you turn on listening in a lesson, the app uses the microphone to hear which piano key you played. The sound is analysed on your phone, as it arrives, and then discarded. Nothing is recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

What stays on your phone

Your progress through the lessons, which concepts you missed, and any songs you import from files. Only the anonymous counts above leave the phone; your imported songs and the sound from the microphone never do. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details and receive no personal information from Apple.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Should we ever begin collecting data, we would say so here and in the app before doing it.
